When to choose a spiral staircase for your interior?

The spiral staircase, also called helical, is a design icon that combines space-saving with circular aesthetics. At Lux Art Dream Design, our Spilo models, available with wooden treads, offer an elegant solution for connecting your floors. But is it the right choice for your configuration? Here are the situations where the spiral is essential and the points of vigilance to know before validating your project.

When to choose a spiral staircase for your interior?
01

Situations where the spiral staircase wins

The main advantage of the spiral staircase is its small footprint. It is the perfect solution for small spaces where a straight or turning staircase could not be integrated without sacrificing a room. It is ideal as a secondary staircase to access a mezzanine, an attic office, or a guest bedroom. Its vertical design creates a real architectural focal point, bringing a touch of modernity without weighing down the room's volume, while remaining robust thanks to its central metal structure.

02

Comfort and limits to check before deciding

Despite its aesthetics, the spiral staircase has comfort limits. Moving bulky objects, such as furniture or mattresses, is more complex than on a classic staircase. You must also pay attention to the headroom (the ceiling height during the climb) to avoid hitting your head. For space-saving models, note that the wooden treads are generally limited to a width of 600 mm, which is perfectly suitable for regular use but requires more vigilance for people with reduced mobility.

03

Diameter, treads, and railing choices

The total diameter of the staircase is crucial: a diameter of 120 to 140 cm is common for space-saving, while a diameter of 160 cm offers significantly higher comfort. At Lux Art, you can customize your Spilo staircase with solid wood treads to soften the touch and noise. The railing, fixed on the perimeter, ensures safety while emphasizing the curve. We advise you to visit our showroom in Grass to test the feeling of climbing on our display models before finalizing your choice for your home in Luxembourg or Belgium.
