What is a bioclimatic pergola?
A bioclimatic pergola is an aluminium outdoor structure fitted with adjustable louvres that regulate light, air and rain. Unlike a classic pergola, it continuously adapts to weather conditions for comfort and protection.

The principle of adjustable louvres
The roof of a bioclimatic pergola is made of aluminium louvres pivoting on their axis. Closed, they protect against rain and provide dense shade. Open, they let air and natural light circulate. The angle is adjusted manually or by motor depending on the model. The main benefit is turning the same outdoor space into a shaded, ventilated or sheltered area within seconds, without any heavy intervention.
The elements that make up the structure
Beyond the roof, a bioclimatic pergola relies on aluminium posts, integrated gutters that collect rainwater and, often, LED lighting or sensors built into the louvres. Optional side walls – sliding glass panels, screens or solid panels – partially close the space as needed on each side. This modularity sets the bioclimatic pergola apart from a classic fixed shelter.
Bioclimatic pergola or classic pergola
A classic pergola, in fabric or fixed timber, offers permanent shade but little climatic flexibility. The bioclimatic pergola adapts throughout the day and seasons thanks to its movable louvres. At Lux Art Dream Design, we offer both approaches: the bioclimatic aluminium pergola with adjustable louvres and the catalogue fabric pergola, to suit each project’s needs and style.
Who is this solution designed for
The bioclimatic pergola suits any terrace, pool area or dining space meant to be used longer throughout the year, whatever the weather. It fits contemporary homes as well as more traditional buildings thanks to customisable finishes. Lux Art Dream Design designs every structure to measure, with 3D Flexijet survey, for a perfect fit to your façade and outdoor plans.
