Stair railing and opening balustrade: what is the difference?

In everyday language the terms are often mixed. Yet the stair railing and opening balustrade are measured differently and protect different areas. Separating them makes a quote request clearer.

Stair railing and opening balustrade: what is the difference?
01

The railing follows the flight

The railing runs along the open side of the stair. Depending on the setting it may be on one or both sides; no length is needed in our initial configuration. Its form depends on the stair model and compatible options.

02

The balustrade protects the opening

Upstairs, the balustrade closes the edge of the floor opening or mezzanine. An approximate length helps at quote stage because it is a separate quantity. Returns, corners and fixing points are checked during measurement.

03

Matching design, but always adjustable

Visual continuity is often preferred, so the selected railing model is automatically suggested for the balustrade. It is not compulsory: space, light or personal preference may justify another model.
