Metal spiral staircase: indoors or outdoors, what to choose?

A metal spiral staircase uses little floor space and adds character, whether to a mezzanine or a raised terrace. Lux Art makes them for indoor and outdoor use. A wrought-iron, plain or contemporary look is decided together; the key differences lie in the diameter, treads and metal protection.

01

Diameter determines comfort

The larger the diameter, the wider the usable part of each tread and the more comfortable the climb. Each model has a minimum and maximum diameter; our configurator shows these limits under the chosen model. Measure the floor opening or free floor space, the height between finished levels and the exact arrival point. Consider moving furniture: a spiral suits a secondary access or a small space better than carrying bulky items.

02

Indoors: treads and finish

Indoors, the metal structure can take steel treads or, depending on the model, solid oak or beech treads. Structure, stair railing and upstairs balustrade can be powder-coated in a RAL colour; a stainless-steel railing keeps its stainless finish. State whether the stair leads to a mezzanine or a full storey: the balustrade around the opening is planned at the same time.

03

Outdoors: galvanising, water and frost

Outdoors, Lux Art galvanises its metal stairs against corrosion, with an optional RAL finish on top. Grating or perforated-metal treads drain water; no surface removes frost risk. Plan a suitable foundation at the foot and a solid fixing to the terrace or balcony. Keep gutter or roof water off the treads.
