Maintaining a bioclimatic pergola

Even though the aluminium of a bioclimatic pergola is particularly resistant, regular, simple maintenance preserves its appearance and the smooth operation of the adjustable louvres over the long term. Here are the right habits to adopt through the seasons.

Maintaining a bioclimatic pergola
01

Routine cleaning of the structure

Cleaning with clear water and a soft cloth or brush is usually enough to remove dust and pollen from the louvres and posts. For more stubborn dirt, a mild non-abrasive soap can be used, avoiding solvent-based products that could damage the lacquer. It is best to clean the louvres in the closed position to easily access their full surface without forcing the mechanism.

02

Checking the louvre mechanism

It is advisable to check occasionally that the louvres rotate freely across their full range, without stiffness or unusual noise. Rails and hinges can be dusted to prevent build-up that hinders rotation. If the pergola is motorised, a visual check of the remote control or app is useful after a long period of inactivity, such as after winter.

03

Maintaining gutters and drainage

The integrated gutters that collect rainwater in the posts can accumulate leaves and debris over the seasons, especially in autumn. A regular visual check ensures drainage remains smooth and water does not pool on the roof. Simple cleaning of the collection points is generally enough to prevent any issues, without needing special tools.

04

Maintaining associated side walls

If your bioclimatic pergola is fitted with sliding glass walls, screens or panels, each solution requires adapted maintenance: cleaning the glass with a mild product, checking the sliding rails, or simply dusting solid panels. Coordinated maintenance of the whole structure, roof and walls, ensures pleasant use of the outdoor space across all seasons.
